Basil Frost Character Concept

BASIL FROST

Basil is a mysterious, cynical friend of Gamble and Orson. The three of them make an interesting team. Basil is the realist and oftentimes will find solitary places to hang out rather than spend time with his friends. He is a long shot, with sniping abilities that trump any other person in all of North America. It is said that he used to be a lawman of some sort in Texas. His past has not been disclosed to either Gamble or Orson. Yet they all trust each other with bonds as strong as brothers. Despite being solitary, it is clear that he is loyal and that he deeply respects his friends. (age 40ish)

Cecilia Character Concept

CECILIA

Like Gamble, she is very emotionally charged, often regarding things with a lot of optimism. She also has a social sweetness about her that gives her ease in talking to anyone she meets. She also has good focus (unlike Gamble) when planning or working on her machines. She is a romantic by heart, fighting feelings for Azael and awaiting her dream lover. Ever since she was a child, she wanted to go on an adventure. Her father and her lived in Germany til she was 13. They then moved to the small Mexican border town that Azael lived in. (Age 18)

Gamble Character Concept

Gamble is a contradiction. He is a man of strong protective loyalty in regards to his friends, yet at the same time a womanizer who can’t commit to women. In regards to protectiveness, he rivals Delphine, in his fierce bonds he feels with his brothers. His loud and confident attitude contrasts against Azael’s silent demeanor. He has a soft spot in his heart for animals. He is also trigger happy and often very reactive to his emotions when he gets heated. (Age 28)

Azael Character Concept

AZAEL

(aka The Mexican Samurai, or the Goat Swordsman)

Azael is a fierce fighter with social phobia and anger issues. His skills with a katana are flawless, but his phobias keep him from fighting with his true strength (if he can gather up the courage to fight at all). In the beginning, his only way of gathering the courage to fight is to let out his tightly bottled anger. He has a strong attachment to family, and has vowed never to kill another human. Planning and strategy are also some of his strong points. (Age 20)            

Yojimbo

Just saw this trailer. The fighting scenes are amazing, especially from such an old film. I'm a big fan of A Fistful of Dollars. It looks like this is next on my movie list.

Delphine Character concept

DELPHINE

She's a single mother, trained by a secret French faction in the art of swordplay. Her father was French and her mother was a Creole. She needs to be tough in order to protect and keep her son. Pancho Villa put a bounty on her head because she refused his romantic advances. She is a devout Catholic and has taken a very serious view on life.  (Age 25)

The Original Storyboard

A year or two ago, I was listening to Mexican Guns by Devotchka and thought of a mexican samurai running through the desert with a sword twice the size of him, wrecking loads of weird monsters in some psuedo-rpg action video game (a product of playing too much Final Fantasy and dynasty warriors...)
I think created the first concept sketch (see first post).
This led to an animatic I created for my multimedia class with Liz King. Here are a few drawings from it.
